Residential Fire Modeling
|
|
DescriptionThis course uses data from fire tests in single-family occupancies to enable firefighters to effectively evaluate and analyze results from computational fire models, such as the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). By viewing expert perspectives, understanding how computational models are constructed, and comparing the results to actual fire tests, participants will learn the benefits, applications and limitations of fire modeling.
Participants will apply data from fire scenarios to FDS, to understand how different conditions may affect the outcome of an actual fire. Participants also will be introduced to different types of fire tests, with explanations of their application and reliability. |
Objectives
- Describe the fundamental components of the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) fire model, its uses, limitations and benefits.
- Identify the impact of assumptions on modeling.
- Relate changes in model input to changes in resulting model fire dynamics for given scenarios.
- Explain experimental data and show fire model setup.
- Discuss assumptions and their affects on output.
- Discuss fire scenarios using FDS and conclusions from modeling input and results.
- Describe how computational fire models apply to firefighting.
